Abstract
Cocoa production in Ondo state, Nigeria over the years is accompanied by fungicides application to control black pod disease caused by Phytophthora megakarya, leading to adverse effect on the environment and cocoa output. Deviation in fungicides application from the standard recommended dose by farmers on cocoa output is common. Many studies on cocoa production often ignore such externalities. The study is aimed at determining the environmental efficiency of cocoa farmers by using detrimental variable (deviation in fungicide application form recommended dose) and traditional inputs in the context of stochastic frontier method.
